Create Space for the Things You Love

My desk is a direct reflection of my state of being right now.

My desk is a direct reflection of my state of being right now.

I have visited my blog so many times in the past year. I would start a draft of a post, then promptly delete it while convincing myself that I don’t have time to blog and that my time should be spend doing more important things. My life has been in the craziest state of flux over the past 12 months. I moved AGAIN (more on that later…), I have had to make some really big decisions, and to sum it up, I have felt like the proverbial duck that looks calm above the surface of the water but underneath the surface is paddling furiously to stay afloat.  One thing that I know about myself if that when I’m out of balance, my surroundings definitely reflect it. My closet is overflowing, my desk (as evidenced above) is unrecognizable, and I have piles of unopened mail, magazines, and packages strewn across every available counter top in my room.

With my crazy busy schedule, I have watched work and other obligations completely take over my life, leaving me with little to no time to stay grounded and partake in many of the fun things that I used to enjoy doing.  Over the past couple of weeks, I have realized that life is not going to grant me permission to create the life I want. It is something that I must do for myself.  I credit this sudden change in perspective to Mercury Retrograde. Astrologically speaking, Mercury Retrograde is a time to slow down and make sure that you are effectively communicating and staying focused because during this time things will have a tendency to go awry [remember my post about my smartphone woes?]  I have been focusing a lot on streamlining my life, honing in on my priorities, and setting out to create space for the things I really love doing, while still taking care of my everyday responsibilities. One of the things that I really love doing is writing. It is a lot of fun exploring different topics, connecting with other bloggers, and sharing my perspective on things.  I’m definitely going to continue to use this blog as a creative outlet and to share what I am learning about different topics.

It can be so easy to live life on autopilot, but I challenge you to stop and think for a moment and ask yourself this question, “When was the last time I actually did something that I wanted to do versus something that I felt that I needed to do?”  Are the things that you feel that you need to do really needs, or have they been imposed on you by your family, magazines, or reality TV?  Answer these questions honestly and I bet that you will at least start to start getting some ideas on how to start taking inspired action in your life.  And as for my desk?  It is a work in progress, but…

Much better!

Much better!
